The Grand Race Road Rally for 2010

The Grand Race Road Rally is returning for a third year this summer.  Loosely based on the CBS series, The Amazing Race, the Grand Race Road Rally challenges four-person teams to follow clues that take them around the Grand Rapids area to locations where they will take on challenges that introduce them to the diverse peoples that live in our community.   The Grand Race Road Rally is organized for Warner Norcross by the Public Museum.

The Grand Race is a blast!  It is a great way to learn more about Grand Rapids and its wonderful diversity.   You can read a detailed description of last year’s race at http://diversity.wnj.com/?p=320.  Better yet, you can watch the slideshow from last year’s event, which appears at the bottom of this post.

Here are the details:

When:  The race will be held on Saturday, June 19 from noon to 4:00 p.m.  An awards ceremony will follow:

Who:    The Grand Race is open to all WNJ staff members and attorneys and their families and significant others.  This is a great event to do as a family.

How does the event work:  Each team will begin at the Public Museum, where they will receive a parking pass (one per team) and their first clue. Clues will direct teams around Grand Rapids to seven local destinations. At each stop, the teams will have to complete a challenge or an activity, such as learning to count to ten in Chinese or trying a new ethnic food. When it completes the task, the team will receive the clue to its next destination.  Teams will come full circle and meet again at the Public Museum at the end of the race for refreshments and the award ceremony.

How to participate:  RSVP to Robin Keith by the end of the day on Thursday, May 20.
