• Taste of Soul Sunday, February 22

The Main Branch of the Grand Rapids Public Library will host Taste of Soul Sunday to celebrate African American history and culture on Sunday February 22, beginning at 1:00 p.m. Sample African American art, music, literature, history and food samples provided by Sandmann’s, Jamaican Dave’s and Selam Store. All events are free and open to the public.

 1:30 pm and 3:00 pm – A Brief History of the Black Church in America with Dr. Rik Stevenson, Jr., Vander Veen Center for the Book, Level 4

 1:30 pm and 3:00 pm – Freedom, Slavery and the Roots of American Music with musician Ray Kamalay, Youth Computer Training Center, Level 2

2:15 pm and 3:45 pm – The Beauty and Art of African Textiles with Dr. Steve Buckridge, Computer Training Center, Lower Level
