Save the Date: Grand Rapids Bar Association Diversity Roundtable

An announcement from the Grand Rapids Bar Association:

On March 9, 2010, the Grand Rapids Bar Association, in collaboration with local partners, will sponsor a Roundtable on the Retention of Diverse Attorneys.

The Roundtable will explore the importance of flexibility and diversity in the recruitment and retention of women attorneys and attorneys of color, as well as the business and economic benefits that can be realized by a diverse organization.

We expect the event will also prove greatly beneficial to businesses and educational institutions as they strive to attract and retain women and persons of color within their ranks.

The impetus for the Roundtable is the anticipated release of a report from the Joint Flexibility and Diversity Initiative of the Minority Corporate Counsel Association (MCCA) and the Project for Attorney Retention (PAR), an initiative out of Hastings College of Law in California that works on developing best practices to promote the retention and advancement of women in the legal profession.

Speakers for the Event Include:

Cynthia Calvert, co-director of Project for Attorney Retention (PAR), and a practicing attorney, will speak about the results of the anticipated report from the Joint Flexibility and Diversity Initiative of the Minority Corporate Counsel Association (MCCA) and the PAR.

Robert Grey Jr., partner at Hunton & Williams, former American Bar Association President and current Interim Executive Director of the Leadership Council on Legal Diversity, will discuss practical steps that can be taken by firms to meet the challenge of minority and female attorney retention.
