• Community Kwanzaa Celebration, December 9

The Grand Rapids alumnae chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority and the Grand Valley University School of Social Work are sponsoring a Community Kwanzaa Celebration on Sunday, December 9, 2007, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., at the St. Cecilia Music Center (24 Ransom Avenue NE, Grand Rapids).

Kwanzaa is a non-religious holiday that was created to reaffirm and reinforce the bonds between people of the African Diaspora, starting with African Americans. This community celebration will help to educate those in attendance on the cultural and community significance of Kwanzaa and highlight the seven principles of Kwanzaa; unity, self-determination, collective work and responsibility, cooperative economics, purpose, creativity, and faith.

Attendees are asked to bring new or gently used winter wear to donate. These items will be donated to the Baxter Neighborhood Association.
