• GRCC Lecturer to Address Environmental Racism

Dr. Robert D. BullardThe GRCC Diversity Lecture Series is presenting Dr. Robert D. Bullard, on Wednesday, March 26, to speak on “Environmental Justice/Environmental Racism.”  (This lecture was originally scheduled for February 6, but was postposed because of a winter storm.) 

Dr. Bullard is the  Ware Professor of sociology and Director of the Environmental Justice Resource Center at Clark Atlanta University.  He is one of the leading experts on environmental justice and race and the environment.   Warner Norcross & Judd is one of the lead sponsors of the Diversity Lecture Series.

Dr. Bullard’s work focuses attention on the racial discrimination in environmental policy making and the enforcement of environmental protection laws and regulations. He examines the access to economic opportunity and quality of life in American cities and metropolitan areas. Dr. Bullard has testified as an expert witness in civil rights cases over the past decade. He is one of the planners of the First and Second National People of Color Environmental Leadership Summit. He is the author of eleven books on environmental justice, urban land use, community reinvestment, housing, transportation, suburban sprawl, and smart growth.

The lecture is free and open to the public.  It will begin at 7 p.m. at Fountain Street Church, 24 Fountain NE, in Grand Rapids.  A reception for the speaker will be held prior to the lecture at 6:00 p.m.  We have a few tickets to the reception.  If you would like one, contact Rodney Martin.
